Course Objectives/Description:

This course will introduce, understand and explore the properties of various linear, planar and granular materials via hands-on working and developing a sense of aesthetics.

Course Outcomes:

On successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  1. Develop an intelligent understanding of materials and their properties.
  2. Develop an ability to make simple products with a good degree of precision.
  3. Inculcate the capacity to critically appreciate appropriate use of materials, processes and techniques in social use contexts.
  4. Document the understanding of materials and processes as accomplished in workshop, class rooms, studio and field visits.

Brief description of modules/ Main modules:

To acquaint student with a sound and hands-on understanding of materials, processes and techniques with simple hand tools. Faced with developing products or models, students should be able to make an appropriate choice of materials with a critical understanding of their properties. The modules are divided on the basis of materials: Linear, Planar and Granular covering paper, textiles, clay and thermocol.

  • Material exploration planar: 20%
  • Material exploration linear: 20%
  • Material exploration granular: 20%
  • Engagement and attendance: 10%
  • End semester jury: 20%
